Courses created as a part of the NIHR GHRC NCD & EC centre with a start date in 2025.

The course Building Advocacy for Global NCDs & EC comprises of several modules.

The first module is titled The Climate-Health Connection: Preparing for Tomorrow. Upon the completion of this training module, the participants would be able to develop an enhanced understanding of the complex interconnections between climate change and human health. By the end of this module, participants will be able:

  • To articulate the impact of climate change on disease patterns, vulnerable populations, and healthcare systems.
  • To identify the strategies for healthcare system adaptation to extreme weather events.
  • To describe the role of media and advocacy in influencing climate-health policy and public action.
  • To analyse their project context to identify key advocacy messages.
  • To create at least one concise key message tailored to their advocacy objectives.
  • To identify sustainable healthcare practices that reduce the carbon footprint and enhance climate resilience.

The New Leader course is designed for people who either are planning to develop or have recently become team leaders and people managers, to provide them with knowledge and tools for effective leadership. The short course uses self-paced online training modules followed by an online workshop with the course lead. The online training modules are timed so that after each module, you have time to implement learnings and input reflections before beginning the next training module. At the conclusion of the online training, you will also participate in an online workshop, with other new leaders. As well as covering further information, the online workshop will go into further detail on topics covered in the online training and also provide you with the opportunity to learn from and with others to further enhance your knowledge.

At the end of the course, trainees will be able to implement a research project effectively throughout its lifecycle. Trainees will be equipped to apply key concepts, principles and tools of project management, establish a project implementation team and emulate the qualities of a good project manager.

By the end of this course, participants will be able:

  • To recognize the key principles and concepts of project management
  • To describe the project management lifecycle for effective research project management
  • To use project management tools to develop a plan and monitor progress of a research project across the lifecycle
  • To plan and establish a team who will implement the research project
  • To recognize the qualities of a good project manager

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to design and conduct process evaluations. By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the need for process evaluations and where they can add value to research and practice 
  • Understand the process by which a process evaluation is undertaken 
  • Articulate strong research question(s) to be answered by a process evaluation in their own research context(s) 
  • Develop a draft protocol for a process evaluation, with support from the research team
